Yoga tour "Experience the hidden gems of Nepal"


Come and join us in this unique tour experience! Not only will you experience some hidden gems of Nepal, such as living in a genuine Tibetan monastery and the Medieval city of Patan. You will also be able to deepen your yoga practice with Ellen Johannesen, who has been living in Nepal for over 5 years, has over 20 years of experience teaching and practicing Ashtanga and has a Masters Degree in Buddhist studies.. Programme

Day 1- October 21st

Arrival to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel; Walk of Boudha stupa. "Jet lag yoga,"

Arrival: We will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel in Boudhanath, The "Tibetan" part of Kathmandu. Here, you will have time to acclimatize and relax, take a stroll around the largest stupa in Nepal and soak up the lively atmosphere of neightbourhood. In the late afternoon we'll meet up for some "jet lag Yoga."

Day 2. October 22nd

Exploring the spirituals hub Boudhanath and pashupatinath

After our morning yoga class and breakfast, it is time to walk the back streets and visit some of the many monasteries in Boudhanath. If possible we will meet a Rinpoche and receive a blessing for our journey! In the afternoon we'll meet up for a tour to the sacred cremation Ghats and Hindu temples of Pashupatinath. This powerful place is also home of the local sadhus and Nath-yogis.

Day 3. October 23rd

Yoga retreat at Neydo Monastery

Morning Yoga, Breakfast.

Departure to yoga retreat at the beautiful Neydo Monastery, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery perched on a hillside near the village Pharping. We have lunch and settle into the monastery guesthouse.

We meet in the temple for an introduction to Buddhist thought and a tour of the spectacular shrine room. Dinner and evening meditation.

Day 4. October 24th

Yoga retreat at Neydo Monastery

After yoga and breakfast we take a walk through the pleasant rice field to one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the valley. The meditation cave of Guru rinpoche, the Asura cave. We climb further up to hang colourful prayer flag to ensure the success of our journey! Lunch, and late afternoon yoga workshop, dinner and evening meditation.

Day 5. October 25th

Yoga retreat at Neydo Monastery, 

After morning yoga and breakfast we continue with an Introduction to Buddhist philosophy and practice. Lunch and transfer to the medival city of Patan.

Here, time is at your own disposal: You may choose to see an astrologist, have a massage, take a singing bowl workshop, or just chill in the colourful Patan Square. Patan has lots of great restaurants and the evening is at your own disposal!

Day 6. October 26th

Patan museum and Golden Temple.

This morning we visit some of the great sites of traditional Newari culture. The Newars are the original inhabitants of Nepal, famous for their skills in arts, handicraft and architecture. 

Patan was one of three royal cities, which is today Kathmandu, each one with their city square, temples and palaces. We visit the Golden Temple and Patan museum, which stores some of the finest sculptures of the valley.

After lunch we depart for The Famous Farm, Nuwakot. We arrive at dinner time to enjoy the fresh and locally grown food.

Day 7. October 27th

Yoga retreat at The Famous Farm, Nuwakot.

Morning yoga and breakfast, free time to explore the farm and the village of Nuwakot, a gem among travellers. Afternoon Yoga workshop. Dinner and evening meditation.

Day 8. October 28th

Yoga retreat at The Famous Farm, Nuwakot.

Morning yoga and breakfast. After breakfast, it is time to go for a walk: the farm staff will take us on a guided trek exploring the nearby landscape and villages . Lunch and rest at the farm, dinner and evening meditation.

Day 9. October 29th

Kathmandu

After Yoga and breakfast we transfer to Kathmandu stopping for lunch on the way. Settle-in at Tibet Hotel, Lazimpat, a quiet spot in the more touristic part of Kathmandu. Free time to relax or visit the buzy hub of travellers shops and restaurants nearby...

Day 10. October 30th

Last day shopping and sightseeing / Home

Morning Yoga/meditation.

Free time for sightseeing, shopping etc. You may take a bicycle rickshaw around the center of Thamel or go visit the "Monkey Temple" at Swayambunath.

Transfer to the airport for evening departure.

Ellen Johannesen, your Yoga Teacher

Ellen Johannesen

Ellen Johannesen

Ellen was one of the very first Ashtanga Teachers in Norway, and founded Ashtanga Yoga Oslo in 2002.

In 2005, she was certified by the Ashtanga Research Insitute in Mysore.

Ellen is deeply interested in Buddhism, and has lived for nearly 2 years in a Tibetan Cloister in Bylakuppe, India.

She later moved to Kathmandu, where she first studied to become a Tibetan translator and interpreter, and later completed a Master Degree in Buddhist studies.

Currently, Ellen teaches at Pranayama Yoga in Kathmandhu and is a highly appreciated and popular teacher for both workshops and retreats in Nepal and in Norway.
